Subscription vs one-time software for a solar business

Paying once feels simple. Here is what it often leaves out.

One-time software asks for a large payment before you know whether it fits. After that, updates are paid upgrades, support is a separate contract, and adding a user may mean another licence.

A subscription changes the shape of the decision. You start small, switch on the modules you need, and add more as the business grows. Updates and support are part of the plan, so the software keeps pace with how you work.

The trade-off is a recurring cost. The question is whether the system stays useful and current. A tool that is never updated is cheap on day one and expensive by year three.

Whichever you choose, check one thing: can you get your data out? Your customer records should belong to you.
